‘An Evening of Poetry From the Horn of Africa’ (Tuesday) Poetry about daily life and war in Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea will be read by those who know it best — writers and scholars who grew up in these areas — along with others in an evening co-sponsored by the online magazine Warscapes and the Center for Place, Culture and Politics. Among those taking part are Ali Jimale Ahmed, chairman of comparative literature at Queens College, who is from Somalia; Charles Cantalupo, a faculty member at Penn State University; and the novelist Maaza Mengiste, who was born in Ethiopia.
