Exceptional Nation-building – Before Independence

Unlike most guerrilla movements of the so-called developing world, the Eritrean struggle went far beyond the goals of liberation. It was a nation building project; an African social experiment. Eritrean revolutionary leaders not only looked towards achieving independence but also towards building a viable post-independence nation-state even while fighters were in the trenches during the strategic retreat.
